Brian and Ruth Christine Newsletter

November 2004 Newsletter

Dear brothers and sisters, greetings from your favorite couple behind bars.  A change in scenery is due for the two infamous criminals very soon. We submitted motions to our sentencing court in Roseburg, Oregon (where we spent 10 months in county jail waiting for trial) and have had them granted.  The court date is set for December 6th and we're asking to be resentenced due to some errors made the 1st time around.

The hope is to get a reduction in time and not and increase.  We'll keep you posted here.  Please pray that we are able to stand together as we have no lawyer representing us and Ruth has not been able to study the pertinent law like I have.  I will be able to argue the law effectively but Ruth would be somewhat lost.  She's worked 10-hour days, 5 days a week all this year and is involved in church activities, crafts, exercise and writing me in all her precious spare hours.  I don't know how she does it.  I'm proud of all her accomplishments.

Personally, I'm very much looking forward to the road trip along the Columbia Gorge and down the valley to Roseburg.  When I was in the hospital recently fro surgery, I found myself awake for about 36 hours despite knock-out narcotics- all because I didn't want to miss a single second of life in the real world.  I was treated like a human being by the doctors and nurses and the guards were scolded by them when they treated me as a sub-human.  The guards look at them in perplexity when this happens, truly confused by this odd suggestion that the inmate should be respected as human.  Not that the guards here are so bad, they're mostly pretty decent, but the whole slave/master reality goes deep and is subtle and accepted inside these walls.

Thank you Scott Corvie (Leonard says sorry, the hand writing may also be Cowie or Corsie) for the fifty dollars you put on my books.  I was able to buy a 27 dollar radio (5 dollars street price) to replace my original that was stolen recently.  I'm listening to it right now.  I mostly listen to the Christian music stations.  Praise Yehovah for His provision and for the obedience of His saints.

I've been spending most of my time on our legal pursuits since we no longer have the luxury of an attorney.  This is going to be a long drawn-out battle.  I suspect after this December hearing that Ruth and I will both have a 2009 release date, but I hope it could be sooner.  You never know what's going to happen in these courts.  May God have mercy on us.

Thank you so much to all of you who've shown us love and support, especially not have ever know us before.  One day we'll all be reigning with Jesus and what a world this will be then!  Oh come that day!

Love, Brian and Ruth
