Christine Trial: Neighbor blamed for encouraging kidnapping
Lawyer Edgar Steele continued presenting his case this morning in the
Roseburg in the trial of Brian and Ruth Christine. They are charged with
kidnapping and robbery for taking their three daughters from state child welfare
caseorkers last August.
Before the children were seized, the family lived in a bus on the property of
Eric Reppert, near Grants Pass. Reppert testified today that he traded Brian
Christine for the 357-magnum used in the abduction.
However, Reppert denied being the mastermind of the plot, and said he
encouraged the Christines to cooperate with state officials.
The defense is expected to wind up today, with closing arguments to follow.

- A defense lawyer says Brian Christine's former landlord encouraged him to take
his children at gunpoint by teaching him firearms training and providing both
the weapon and the getaway car.
